Berry blasts 95 to set up Horspath 3rd's win

STUART Berry hit a resilient 95 to set Horspath 3rd on the way to a tense eight-run win at Kingston Bagpuize in Cherwell League Division 5. Berry provided the backbone of the innings as Horspath were bowled out for 185, Jamie Cox taking 5-40.

The Horspath all-rounder then took 3-31 as Bagpuize fell short on 177 all out, Tom Smith weighing in with 3-28. The victory takes the side up to second place.

Horspath 2nd were skittled for 113 in a seven-wicket defeat at Long Marston in Division 1. Extras provided the top score of 29 with James Beesley (5-32) doing the bulk of the damage. Beesley then made 46 as Long Marston coasted to victory at 115-3, with Jehan Mohammed picking up 2-21 to add to his unbeaten 20. The defeat leaves the side one of the foot of the table.

Twelve-year-old Alfie Turner made an impressive debut with an unbeaten 34 to steer Horspath 4th to a six-wicket home win over Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd in Division 7. The youngster's knock saw Horspath home at 157-4 after Shipton had been held to 152-7 with Tim Fry taking 3-36. The win takes Horspath up to second place.
