O'Connor hits terrific ton in Horspath 2nd victory

DOMINIC O'Connor hit a brilliant unbeaten century to steer Horspath 2nd to a thumping nine-wicket home win over Long Marston in Cherwell League Division 1. Chasing Long Marston's 201 all out after the visitors had chosen to bat, O'Connor hammered 102 not out from 135 balls with 21 fours. He played the leading role in an opening stand of 165 with Joey Todd, who made 59 from 114 deliveries. Dan Todd (18no) then joined O'Connor to see Horspath secure victory at 202-1 off 44 overs. Jehan Mohammed had taken 3-41 in the Long Marston innings, while skipper Jack Biggs picked up 2-22 and Ed Oakley claimed 1-25 from nine overs. Jeremy Smith (53), Zack Wade (43) and James Beesley (32) all made handy contributions for the visitors, but it wasn't enough. Horspath 3rd moved up to second in Division 5 with an emphatic five-wicket home win over Kingston Bagpuize. Bagpuize were shot out for 132 after electing to bat despite Dougie Phillips making 51 as James Earnshaw picked up 3-11. Ceri Holmes (35) then top-scored for the hosts as they sped to victory at 136-5 off 25 overs. Robin Pykett's side are now three points behind leaders Thame Town 2nd and 16 points ahead of third-placed Abingdon Vale 2nd. Trevor Spindler's five-wicket haul and half-centuries from David Wells and John Perkins helped Horspath 4th to an impressive eight-wicket win at Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd in Division 7. Spindler took 5-58 as Shipton were bowled out for 214 after being put in to bat, with Ali Wolf (40) and Greg Woods (34) in the runs. Horspath chased down the target with ease as Wells (77), Perkins (67) and Derek Watts (43) tucked into the Shipton bowling to clinch victory on 215-2 from 39.4 overs.
