Horspath 2nd draw Cherwell opener

HORSPATH 2nd got the worst of a draw at home to Cumnor in their Cherwell League Division 1 opener. Joe Dale hit an impressive 113 as the visitors racked up 278-6 from their 53 overs after being put in to bat, with Will Bull making an unbeaten 48, while former Horspath player Luke Finch chipped in with 38 and Alex Davis 30. Skipper Mark Skelton (3-59) was the home side's most successful bowler. Horspath replied with 222-8 from 47 overs, with Stephen Green (35) and Jehan Mohammed (31) the only two batsmen to make any impact as Davis took 4-81. Stuart Berry's five-wicket haul proved in vain for Horspath 3rd, who crashed to a 129-run defeat at home to new boys Minster Lovell in Division 4. Berry picked up 5-70 as last year's OCA champions made 250 all out after being put in to bat, with Harry Ebsworth (51), Ollie Mearsh (37) and James Merriman (30) leading the way. Horspath were never in the hunt in reply, being bowled out for 121, with Leigh Smith (5-13) and Brian Barrett (3-27) doing the damage. Horspath 4th slipped to a one-wicket defeat at Minster Lovell 2nd in a Division 7 thriller. Young Alfie Turner shone with 35 as the visitors were bowled out for 131 after being put in to bat, with Ben Spencer taking 5-27. Horspath made Minster fight all the way for the runs, before the hosts scraped home at 135-9 off 45 overs, with Spencer making an unbeaten 30. Trevor Spindler (3-24) and Hayden Moon (3-25) were the mainstays of the Horspath attack.
