Horspath 2nd concede 47 wides in wash-out

HORSPATH 2nd were 44-3 chasing Abingdon Vale's 255 all out when their Cherwell League Division 1 game at the Recreation Ground was abandoned due to heavy rain. The hosts conceded a staggering 62 extras - including an incredible 47 wides - in Abingdon's innings, while there were also half-centuries for Max Owen (52) and Amith Premkumar (50). Asad Rafiq returned the best figures for Horspath with 2-35 from his ten overs, and there were also two wickets apiece for Jason Cardy, James Earnshaw and skipper Mark Skelton. Horspath 3rd were up against it at second-placed Stokenchurch when their Division 4 game was abandoned as a draw due to heavy rain. The hosts made 206-4 dec off 29.5 overs after being put in to bat with Paul Maddock (70), Ashley Hunt (45) and Arshad Latif (37) in the runs as Adrian Manger took 3-28. Horspath were 73-5 from 24 overs, with Chris Jones hitting 38, when the heavens opened. Horspath 4th had posted 154-6 at home to Division 7 leaders Westbury 2nd, who were 41-1, before rain washed their game out. Hayden Moon (39) top-scored for the hosts, and there were also good contributions from Paul Hicks (31), captain Carl Thompson (27) and David Wells (27) as Michael Peyton Bruhl took 3-36. Westbury had lost one wicket in reply before the game was abandoned with Tom Whittenbury marking his debut by taking a steepling catch at mid-on off Jonathan Hedges.
