Jehan's 5-63 in vain for Horspath 2nd

JEHAN Mohammed's five-wicket haul and a half-century from Dom O'Connor couldn't save already-relegated Horspath 2nd from a 68-run defeat at leaders Tiddington in Cherwell League Division 1. Jehan returned figures of 5-63 off 17 overs as Tiddington posted 258-9 dec after being put in to bat, while off-spinner James Earnshaw (3-63) was also among the wickets. Harry McNeilly (76), Jon Talbot (44) and Will Goodman (32) were the mainstays of the Tiddington innings. O'Connor attempted to hold Horspath's reply together with a patient 54 off 125 balls, which included six fours. But with only Chris Jones (47) and Earnshaw (27) providing support, they were bowled out for 190 as Max Smith took 3-68. Horspath 3rd remain bottom of Division 4 following a 154-run thrashing at Witney Mills. Having put Mills in to bat, Horspath saw the hosts rack up 257-3 dec with opener Samuel Cross hitting 114. He shared a third-wicket stand of 127 with captain Michael Dove (53no), who piled on the runs with Sam Haselgrove (37no). Jonty Hedges was the pick of the Horspath attack, taking 1-28 off ten overs. Craig Wharton (31) and Derek Watts put on 47 for Horspath's first wicket, but then they collapsed to 103 all out against Pierre Lefort (4-26) and Haselgrove (3-26). The defeat leaves Horspath ten points adrift of ninth-placed Dinton 2nd. Horspath 4th stand just three points above the Division 7 relegation zone following an eight-wicket defeat at home to fellow strugglers Witney Mills 2nd. After being put in to bat, Horspath succumbed for 89 with Max Eason, playing his first league game for 13 years a week after his 70th birthday, the undefeated batsman as Richard Tilley took 5-28 and Anthony Wilson 3-15, with five batsmen falling lbw. Young Harvey Shorter (2-29) then took both Mills wickets to fall as the visitors eased home at 95-2 with James Harrison 37 not out.
