Mike Honey

We are very sorry to have to report the sudden death of Mike Honey at his home in Wrexham. Mike was an extremely talented sportsman who particularly excelled at cricket and football, where he was goalkeeper for Oxford City. Along with his younger brother Morris, Mike formed the backbone of the strong Horspath team of the sixties and seventies. Mike was adept at all facets of the game. A top order batsman, particularly strong off the back foot, an accomplished swing bowler, an outstanding slip fielder, and a more than capable wicket keeper when required. His most notable performance came in the 1973 Airey Cup final when his 90 against Combe was the major factor in Horspath securing the prestigious cup for the first time, after many years of trying. Our condolences at this sad time go to Mary, Mark, Richard and Matthew and the extended family and friends. The funeral will be held in Wrexham at 12.00 pm on Thursday 15th March
