Horspath run chase cut short by rain

HORSPATH had lost two early wickets chasing Thame Town's 199 all out at the Recreation Ground when heavy rain forced the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 clash to be abandoned.

The hosts were 12-2 at the time with Jimmy Phillips and Shahbaz Ali falling to catches off Michael Beard. Phillips went for a duck when he flicked a delivery to William Taylor at square leg, while Shahbaz had made just two when he was caught at mid-off by Adam Phippen.

Earlier, Thame had recovered from 32-4 to post a challenging total after being put in to bat. Despite feeling under the weather, Horspath skipper Will Eason picked up the first three wickets. Wicket-keeper Jasper Davies took a smart catch standing up to remove Will Sutcliffe, before Eason hit the top of William Taylor's off stump and Beard fell in similar fashion as he shouldered arms.

Thame captain Michael Higgs then pulled a short delivery from Adam Price to square leg where Stephen Green pouched a good catch diving to his right. William Simpson made a brisk 25 before Robbie Eason took a catch above his head at mid-wicket off Rameez Raja to make it 68-5.

But the visitors rallied with Honey Garg and Matthew MacDonald taking the score to 129, before the latter was adjudged lbw to Jamil Faruq for 36. Hassam Mushtaq then provided Garg with good support, and they had added 48 for the seventh wicket when the former was bowled through the gate by Price for 31.

Lloyd Belcher, extracting turn with his left-arm spin, then picked up two wickets in two balls, bowling Matthew Furness, before trapping Will Rooney lbw. Will Eason returned to wrap up the innings when Garg top-edged a delivery back to him for a well-made 55 off 97 balls with three fours. Eason finished with 4-60, while there were tidy ten-over spells from Price (2-21) and Belcher (2-33).
