Opener Eason in form for Lansdown test

Robbie Eason
OPENER Robbie Eason warmed up for Saturday's trip to Lansdown with an unbeaten 90 to steer Horspath to a seven-wicket home win over Aston Rowant on a busy opening weekend of friendlies. Skipper Will Eason's side for the friendly against the Bath club will also see debuts for new recruits Ian Slatcher and James Fitzjohn.

Chasing Rowant's 222-3 off 40 overs after the visitors had been put in to bat last Saturday, Robbie hit two sixes and nine fours in his perfectly-paced 107-ball innings to see Horspath home at 224-3 with an over to spare. He shared an opening stand of 95 with Dom O'Connor (47), before putting on 110 for the second wicket with new signing Tom Coleman, who made a fluent 56 from 63 deliveries with one six and seven fours. Earlier, Tim Morgan had top-scored for Rowant with 60 off 99 balls, while Tom Condon chipped in with 31, before Chris Watling (46no) and Josh Smith (35no) ensured the innings finished with a flourish.

Meanwhile, Hayden Moon returned impressive figures of 5-9 off eight overs as Horspath 2nd won by seven wickets away to a youthful Aston Rowant 2nd. Moon's devastating spell helped send Rowant crashing to 102 all out after they had elected to bat first, with young Jamie Hicks polishing off the tail with 3-11. Horspath were then reduced to 41-3, before Paul Hicks (36no) and Adam Thompson (25no) saw Horspath race to victory at 105-3.

The season had opened on Good Friday with Horspath going down to a one-wicket defeat against Longridge in a last-over thriller. The hosts posted 203-7 from 40 overs with O'Connor making a half-century, before the Lancashire tourists scrambled home at 204-9 with a ball to spare.

The weekend action was completed with a seven-wicket defeat at home to Far From The Madding Crowd on Sunday. Horspath's 197-6 didn't prove enough as the visitors secured victory on 199-3.

Horspath (v Lansdown, away, Sat): W Eason (capt), R Eason, J Stead, D O'Connor, T Coleman, T Cosford, J Fitzjohn, S Green, I Slatcher, M Skelton, L Belcher.
