U15s off to a flying start with strong win in season opener

The 15s "Path" side scored a comfortable victory away at Wolvercote on Monday evening to begin their season with a 104 run victory.

Skipper Tejas Anand won the toss and sensibly elected to bat while the light was good. The pitch at the Cherwell school was erratic to say the least with the same approach to the wicket resulting in a pea-shooter one ball and a steepling bouncer the next. With a slow outfield the Path outfit posted a very respectable score of 129 for 4 from their 20 overs. Alfie scored a very tidy 44 and put on a partnership of 65 with Tarek who made a useful 25 before being bowled by a good full delivery. Faisan, Ebben and Luke all chipped in with valuable runs as Horspath scored at more than a run a ball to record a very competitive 129.

Wolvercote were always up against it and the Horspath attack clicked from the outset. Elliot and Charlie opened with accurate and quick spells and soon the wickets were tumbling. Charlie was on a hat-trick in the third over but had to settle for two and the pace and bounce of Welly had another couple of batsmen back in the hutch before long. Harvey and Josh C then bowled very tight spells. Harvey recorded two consecutive maidens and Josh returned the excellent figures of 3-3 from his 3 overs. Jamie Hicks bowled impressively too to bag a 1-3 from his 3 overs too. Wickets kept falling and Wolvercote were soon at 12 for 8 before being restricted to 25 all out in the 17th over.

All in all a very commendable team effort with every team member making a strong contribution. Also, special mention must go out to Joe Gibbs who acted as scorer and did a great job with no fuss at all. Nice one Joe!
