Cosford and Fitzjohn shine with half-centuries

NEW signings Tom Cosford and James Fitzjohn hit sparkling half-centuries as Horspath continued their build-up to the new season with a 76-run victory at Lansdown. The duo provided the backbone of the visitors' 235-8 from 45 overs after being put in to bat on a damp pitch at the Bath club. Cosford was brutal at times, smashing 72 from 57 balls with three sixes and eight fours. Fitzjohn, meanwhile, made an immediate impact on his debut with his first runs for the club being a six into the car park off a free hit. He went on to make 51 from 84 deliveries, adding six fours to his opening maximum. Opener Jamie Stead had earlier contributed 28. Landown, who play in the West of England Premier League Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset, were then bowled out for 159, despite a century at the top of the order from Jordan Smith. He hit a fluent 103 from 101 balls, with two sixes and 17 fours, as his teammates capitulated at the other end. Lloyd Belcher did the early damage with a high quality spell of left-arm spin, picking up 4-24 from his nine overs. Off-spinner Fitzjohn bowled well to complete an excellent debut with 3-44, before leg-spinner Tom Coleman (2-21) wrapped up the innings.
