Horspath are sent crashing by Banbury

HORSPATH came crashing back down to earth following their opening-day win at Burnham in Home Counties Premier League Division 1 with a nine-wicket thrashing at home to Banbury. Having been put in on a pitch which was wet at one end, Horspath gave no indication of the collapse that was to follow as openers Jamie Stead and Robbie Eason battled away to put on 38 for the first wicket. However, Stead's dismissal, bowled by Ollie Wright, sparked a dramatic collapse, which saw Horspath shot out for 117. Eason was next to go, caught by Tom Bartlett off Wright for 21, making it 58-2. Five runs later, Tom Coleman became Wright's third victim, caught behind by Will Hawtin, who then snapped up edges from Rameez Raja and Tom Cosford off Jack Wilkins to make it 78-5. James Fitzjohn was bowled by Wright, before skipper Will Eason was run out by Ollie Clarke, making it 104-7. Ian Slatcher was trapped lbw by Richard West, who then bowled Jamil Faruq and ran out Lloyd Belcher to wrap up the innings inside 44 overs. Wright finished with 4-13 off ten overs, while Wilkins (2-15) and West (2-29) also bowled well. With extras top-scoring with 31, Horspath's batsmen were left to reflect on some poor shot selection. Banbury then cruised to 118-1 off 26.5 overs. Horspath's only success came when Will Eason bowled Bartlett, with the score on 17. But Banbury captain Lloyd Sabin then proceeded to hit an unbeaten 51 from 68 balls, with three sixes and six fours, while opener Craig Haupt was undefeated on 42.
