Magical Manger stars in Horspath 3rd's draw

ADRIAN Manger rolled back the years to take 6-27 as Horspath 3rd held on for a draw at Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd in Cherwell League Division 4. The evergreen seamer's superb figures helped bowl out Shipton for 194 after they had been put in to bat. Jason Hunt (47) led the way in an opening stand of 69 with Russell Hayes, who became Manger's first victim when he had posted 60 from 86 balls, making it 132-2. Manger then worked his way through the rest of the order, with good support from captain Robin Pykett (2-46). Horspath lost wickets at regular intervals in reply, with seven batsmen reaching double figures, but no-one able to go on and register a match-winning contribution as Chris Jones (27) top-scored. Robert Panting (4-47) was Shipton's chief destroyer, before Stuart Berry and Tom Smith negotiated the closing overs to secure the draw at 172-9. Horspath 2nd slumped to a 97-run defeat at Banbury 2nd in Division 1. The hosts posted 253-8 after electing to bat, before Horspath were bowled out for 156. Horspath 4th slipped to a five-wicket defeat at Horley 2nd in Division 7. The visitors were bowled out for 124 after being put in to bat, with opener David Wells (32) top-scoring, before Simon Cox (3-6) and Richard Hart (3-17) polished off the innings. Veteran seamer Trevor Spindler (4-55) made Horley battle for the runs, but they eased home at 128-5 with Mathew Burden (37) and Simon Cox (32) leading the way.
