O'Connor's superb ton in vain for Horspath 2nd

DOM O'Connor ended his run drought with a superb century - but it couldn't save Horspath 2nd from a four-wicket home defeat by Long Marston in Cherwell League Division 1. O'Connor, who emerged from a similar barren spell with a ton against the Hertfordshire club last season, showed his liking for their bowling again with 108 as Horspath posted 233-9 after electing to bat first. The Horspath opener was given good support by Graham Beer, who struck 50, as Jeremy Smith took 4-36 for Long Marston. O'Connor's efforts left him struggling with heat exhaustion, which saw him replaced in the field when the visitors batted. Andy Cummings took two wickets in an accurate spell, but Long Marston then got on top thanks to Rory Miscampbell (81) and R Bee (53no). And with the home side becoming increasingly ragged in the field, the visitors got home with 2.5 overs to spare. Horspath 3rd crashed to a nine-wicket defeat at Thame Town 2nd in Division 4. The visitors were bowled out for 105 after choosing to bat first, with Sam Lachlan (3-29) and George Patey (3-34) among the wickets. Matt Furness (47no) and Patey (38no) then steered Thame to 106-1.
